Grant Available For Auburn Festival Of Lights Mutant Vehicle Or Float

Sacramento Valley Spark is offering $499 in grant assistance to fund an art car/float project for the Auburn Festival of Lights Parade on Dec. 1. The purpose of this grant is to extend support for area residents who seek to create unique art that enhances community interaction at this growing event. Submission will be part of larger supported “Burners are US” entry with smaller art cars, bikes and walkers.

Foats are limited to 13 feet high and 12 feet wide. See additional requirements HERE.

Important Dates:

  • Oct. 15 – Begin accepting grant submissions online
  • Oct. 29 – Deadline for all grants to be submitted is 11:59 PM
  • Nov. 2 — Selected awardee announced
  • Nov. 12, 2018 – Deadline to enter float/car in the parade

Applications will be judged by an SVS committee based on creativity (interactivity, imaginativeness and artist vision) and execution (safeguards, planning and budget).

Pieces that will remain as active art cars/floats will be invited to future SVS community events when possible. Grants will be awarded in full prior to the project with the understanding that if the project is not completed and entered into the Auburn Festival of Lights, funds will be returned.

Who is eligible:

Everyone is eligible to receive a Spark grant EXCEPT individuals belonging to these groups within Sacramento Valley Spark membership:

  • The Board of Directors of Sacramento Valley Spark
  • The Officers of Sacramento Valley Spark

 

What Sacramento Valley Spark Art Grants DO fund (For the Auburn Festival of Lights):

  • Mutant vehicles (must meet size limitations)
  • Mobile art – sculptures that move
  • Artistic float
  • Fuel, transportation, entry fee, decor, equipment   

Application:

Please submit a well-thought-out proposal that details the artistic process and hoped-for results, a budget, safety and LNT plans, drawings and building specs, and a clearly outlined timeline of project completion.

Size limitations:

Maximum size requirements are dictated by parade organizers and fixed objects on the route and are NOT negotiable. Please don’t offer vehicles that don’t fit 13-feet high, 12-feet wide requirement.

Support:

SVS will support selected project through in-kind contributions, solicitation of volunteers and other means as needed. Entry will highlight larger “Burners are US” annual entry that will include smaller art cars, burner bikes and walkers.
