Burners Without Borders Grant Will Allow SVS To Execute “Moop Your City” in 2020

SVS was recently awarded with a Burners Without Borders grant for a proposal put together to encourage the principles Leave No Trace, Participation, Civic Responsibility, Communal Effort and Gifting. The “Moop Your City” event will encourage community groups to participate in a trash pick up day. It will include training the next generation to actively take direct action to show pride in their community.

The goal is to have this event in correlation with the the 2020 Summer Spark event. Funds will be used for rewarding participation, the 3-d printing of “Moop” sticks (trash grabbers) and a video component to share the process, making the program scale-able for other BWB chapters.

One of the core principles of Burning Man is “Leave No Trace.” Attendees must pack their belonging and trash in and out of the event. “MOOP” (or Matter Out Of Place) is a common accronym amongst Burners and “MOOPing” indicates that you are cleaning your space, leaving the natural environment better than before arrival.

Plans for the event will start formulating in the coming months. Participation is encouraged!
