FLORAL HEADDRESS WORKSHOP w/Miss Ro
Build your own fabulous headdress to adorn your lovely head both on and off playa. In this workshop you will learn how to assemble and construct a headdress using an array of provided materials from faux flower and plants, jewels, spray paint, zip ties, chains, etc. Feel free to bring additional materials. You will also have the option to add lights to make them visible at night!
About me: I am originally from NY and have been an artist for pretty much my entire life. I have tried everything from drawing, painting, sculpture, and all kinds of crafts and DIY. Recently, I have been engaged in projects that aim to involve interaction and contributions from others particularly those that do not consider themselves artists. I also enjoy teaching others and while headdresses may be intimidating to create, I believe that anyone is capable of making one that they are proud of.
PLAYA PENDANT WORKSHOP and The Museum of Playa Artifacts w/Tod “TBone” Johnson
Come make cool pendants, learn about the GIFTING BMan principle. The museum will display a fraction of Tbone’s enormous collection of playa jewelry and other artifacts. There will be 3 medallion making sessions on Saturday, but feel free to stop in any time to see the artifacts collection.
About me: I’m a computer laser artist that likes to provide ideas to Burners about making their own unique art and helping teach Burning Man 10 principles.

FAN/POI/HOOP FLOW w/VuPu
Flow arts is a unique art form based on combining object manipulation with dance and other movement disciplines. Poi, hoop, staff, fans and other tools are incorporated. You will learn the basics or a more intermediate concept based on your skill.
About me: VuPu is a mover and a doer. Always finding an artistic project or physical challenge to dedicate her energies to. An original member of UNMATA, creator and creative director of Up In Smoke, and the lead of Theme Camp Gotalotgoinon.

EASY RICE WINE w/ShakaBoom
Demonstration of making rice wine. It’s as easy as cooking and cooling a batch of sweet rice, sprinkling it with yeast, and putting it in a jar. Participants will sample new rice wine and 2 year old rice wine to compare the results. Each participant will take home a pint jar of yeasted rice and a packet of yeast balls to make more wine in the future plus a small shot glass for tasting.
About me: I’ve been making fruit wines for 20 years and learned to make rice wine from a nurse from Tibet. Most wine making requires special equipment. This wine is so easy anyone can do it and I want to share the knowledge.

LET’S BUILD THE EFFIGY! With Fon & OD
We will meet near the main firepit to construct the Saturday night Effigy. This effigy will be burned as the weather permits. Bring any materials (wood, tree limbs, wood furniture) you think can be used to form, attach to something that ether will be constructed in this area on land or on the island. Once in place on the island road flairs will be used to lite it up. Students will learn the proper uses of screw guns, saws and janky building.

Learn a couple ways to add lights to your outfit or costume.
About me: Erin St Blaine is a light artist based in Northern California. She creates sculptures, costumes and artwork with programmable LED lights, often including interactivity and data visualization to bring her creations to life.
Erin’s innovative creations explore the way LED lights and 3d printed objects interact with the human body in motion: onstage through dance and flow arts, connecting with audiences at events through interactive character costumes, or underwater with Glimmer, the world’s first fully submersible and swimmable LED mermaid tail. Her art installations bring the natural world together with the latest microcontroller technology, to make glowing rivers, animated blinking tree faces, vertical gardens that can predict the weather, and walls of crystal that react to the viewer.
Her mission is to inspire more young makers, especially girls who are under-represented in the STEM world, to use art and technology to make their own dreams come true.

Bring a shirt and I will show you how to cut it up to make it look like a funky new shirt. Bring your own t-shirt and scissors please! I may have some scissors to loan.
About me: I would love to show you how to do something that is easy and will transform any t-shirt into something fabulous! I’ve done this class on the playa many times.

MAKE A MONKEY STICK w/Ratty
Come and make a Monkey Stick. These percussion instruments go by many names. It is called a mendoza, mendozer, Murrumbidgee river rattler, lagerphone or zob stick. The noise comes from bottle caps screwed onto a stick. Add a leather grip, painted design, or just leave it natural. The price is ZERO dollars. the satisfaction is priceless.
About me: I have made exactly ONE of these and it is so fun to make and to use. I have all the supplies and tools. It’s nice for the attendees to have a nice take-away gift to remember the event.

YOGA WITH DUSTY
Yoga on the dock with Dusty, all bodies, all levels, with a super playlist and you! Some mats provided, best to bring your own mat, coffee cups in hand 9:30 AM through 11ish. Your practice is your practice. Class will be based on the feel of those of us who come to our mats each time. Mixed stretches and flow depending on my playa maker’s needs.

This class will focus on how to shop for, store and prepare delicious fresh , fast and easy food to keep you happy and healthy on the Playa, with just basic camping equipment. Lots of tips and tastings will be shared.

A useful demonstration on proven ideas and methods of securing camp equipment down to the Playa (ground) in preparation of high winds up to 70 MPH. This will use- Playa screws(long wood log cabin building screws), ratchet straps, screw guns etc. to structures including pop ups and car ports.
About me: 20+ year burner who has experienced high wind and dust on Playa at the Burning Man. I enjoy sharing safety hacks that help out for all burners.

About me: As a theme camp organizer and an SVS board member I have been privy to several situation when clear consent or better understanding of activities could have protected people from getting into uncomfortable situations.

Start your garden small or big.
About me: At BM I do educational talks at the Earth Gaurdians Pavilion, on compost and wick gardening. Showing how to get started with what they have at home or get it almost free. Be it on a apartment balcony using containers or in the ground. Wick system saves water and can grow everything in a bucket. People need to know how to grow as prices go up and there’s less to buy. My compost box system is being used in Canada, Bazil, and India plus parts unknown. I’ve been doing this at BM for years.

FLOW ARTS CLASS HOOP/POI w/ Majic
Come explore your flow, covering most of the basics and will touch on some intermediate-advanced techniques, with Poi and hoop.
About me: I grew up in a small town in Northern California. My journey started with poi in 2008. Me and friends formed the troupe Pyrotechnics shortly after. The troupe performed regularly in the Northern California and Southern Oregon areas. I was a principal teacher at Hot Pot Studios in Sacramento California.
PROVISIONS- PLAN, PREP AND PREPARE w/ Playa Mama
Food for the playa needs to be fast and easy, with a little prep it can be delicious too! This class will cover how to create a tasty menu with a plethora of time saving tips. Examples and samples will be included. This is the perfect class for the virgin burner or an experienced burner who is looking for some new ideas. Recipes will be provided!
About me: Food is my passion and I have been cooking for over 50 years. I just retired from 17 years of teaching high school culinary arts; I was also the mentor for our school’s culinary competition team. I have been burning since 2018, and I have learned a lot about what food works for BRC and what can be a smelly disaster (peeled hard boiled eggs). I know I have some helpful skills and knowledge that will be benefit my fellow burners.
